The general impression of someone having his hands in the pockets (of his own) is taken to be graceful. Psychologically, it's lack of confidence and trust. It's almost an established fact with me, I believe.
ermm.. I agree with Faraz partially.. Hands in pockets and talking are considered impolite but ONLY in Formal situations, which this is not ofcourse! Somehow I feel its a strange situation, cuz the guy and woman are both trying to be boss(the stifness of guy and high chin, up heels of woman) but still I see smile on both faces ( curse my imagination for this ). so over all situation is not very cold and un-lovely :P

Looking at the posture, the guy is indifferent while the woman has her chin up and is standing on her toes to appear tall.
To me, the guy's indifferent attitude says that he's the boss. He wouldn't have his hands in his pockets if the woman was the boss ;)

I disagree with Ejaz. It is extremely impolite to have your hands in your pockets while talking to someone.
